Hello, I’m Jess and I am a beach supervisor at Horizon Watersports. I work at the new 2018 centre in the Amanzoe Hotel, at Kranidi.
Our typical day starts off with a morning meeting run by me, where we plan for the day ahead. I let the team know what the weather is doing for the day and we discuss what sessions are running that day. It's important for me to know what the instructors session plans are to make sure that everything goes smoothly throughout the day. We have to consider the kit needed, the safety cover needed, the guests age, the guests ability etc and then we create a GREAT lesson for them.
After morning meeting we hop to it and set the beach up ready for the eager guests to get out onto the water!
In peak season, in July and August, the beach hots up with activity and keeps us all on our toes with guests hiring out kit and taking lessons on new things. We are doing a job we love, in a country we love, so even when it's busy it keeps us smiling!
The best parts of my job are chatting and getting to know the guests of the hotel, helping to develop the staff team with running sessions but also with their personal skills. I also like thinking of new a creative ideas to raise money for charity.
My highlights of the season so far include getting to put all my training into practice and fly back to the UK to attend an RYA Senior Instructor course... and passing!
And also a day on the beach involving 20 giant inflatable unicorns and flamingos - but that’s a story for another day!
No two days are the same in this job and that's all part of the fun.
