Why does Charlotte LOVE Nidders?

October 17, 2017

My name is Charlotte and after completing the 5 week windsurf instructor course in August, I am now a new member of the team working here at Horizon Watersports!

It's great to have been given a job after my course so that I could put all my new windsurf skills in to practice.  Nidri is a great location and I have been very lucky to have lived here for the past 2 months. Here are my top 5 favourite things in and around Nidri!

1. Gyros

One of my favourite things about Nidri has got to be the gyros! A traditional greek dish which is made with chicken or pork. Plus - tomato, onion, chips and tzatziki sauce all wrapped in a toasted pitta. There are loads of different gyros shops throughout the town. It's the perfect snack after a day on the water!

And it's super cheap at just €2.20.

2. Nidri Waterfalls

The waterfalls are located about 3km from the town centre, so they make a great little cycle ride or walk to. You go through all the small farm areas around Nidri and the olive groves. The waterfalls are great and once you’re there you can enjoy a paddle or a swim!

3. Discovering the incredible beaches around Lefkas

The island of Lefkas has some amazing beaches, especially on the west coast including Porto Katsiki, Kalamitsi and Kathisma Beach, which are all accessible by the local buses. The sea is just so clear and blue it is beautiful!

4. Rum Shack at Horizon

Here at Horizon we run a charity night called ‘Rum Shack’ which is open to the public on a Friday night, and offers rum and mixers for only 2.50 a drink, with all proceeds going to good causes!

Rum shack is located at our beach and our beach desk turns into a mini bar, which is a great chance for the guests, staff and the locals to socialise whilst raising money for charity.

5. Exploring the local Islands around the Bay

There are lots of small islands located around the bay, which are great to go exploring around! These can be explored by Kayak, Paddleboard, or by boat, and give a great chance to explore the local marine life.  If you are lucky you might even see a dolphin which is just magical and really reminds you how great it is to work in a place like this!
