New Horizons in the Peloponnese

July 15, 2017

This summer is very exciting for Horizon Watersports, as the team have been spreading the Horizon love over Greece and expanding our offering to the Peloponnese. In addition to our beach base in Nidri, on Lefkas Island, we now also have a private watersports base in the Peloponnese. This means that our private watersports instructors teach at your villa. You provide the boats and the coast and we provide the fun and expertise!

The Peloponnese boasts views of outstanding natural beauty and the interest in watersports in this area is booming! With tourists and locals looking for exciting activities to do in their time off.

From our main base in Nidri if you head south over the Corinth Canal you get into the Peloponnese region. Corinth Canal is worth stopping at and be sure to get your camera out. It is a made man waterway, cut through the land to combine two key shipping channels in the area. It really is quite something to see!

A great way to explore the region is to head to Athens ferry port where you can get a Hydrofoil to pretty much anywhere you desire in the south. The Hydrofoil is an exciting way to travel and means you can see all the glorious islands and coastlines along the way.

The local winds accommodate sailing with relative ease most months of the year. Occasional stronger winds can be fun too and also help to take the heat out of the high summer temperatures. Last week one of our guests was telling us, it’s only hot when the Greek locals are complaining saying today is Poli Zesti (very hot!). Apparently, it takes 40 plus temperatures for ‘Poli Zesti’ to be stated!

One of our favourite things about this region is the host of secret locations that you seem to stumble upon on a daily basis - from lakes to mountains to quiet bays and lively towns. Not to mention the amazing super windy spot we found for windsurfing, with not a soul in sight! Maybe we’ll keep that spot a secret!

To conclude, we love it down here. The people and the food are great and the access to water sports in incredible. We will keep you posted on what we get up to and where we end up teaching…..exciting times for Horizon Watersports. Onwards and upwards!
