This summer one of our most popular Paddle Cruises has definitely been the ‘Snorkel Adventure’. One morning, we got all the staff together and did a fantastic early morning Snorkel Adventure of our own! Setting off from the centre at 8am, we paddled in kayaks and paddle boards across the bay to ‘Poet’s Island’. The water was flat calm and we were the only people out there, so it felt like our very own playground.
After about 15 minutes of paddling we stopped before reaching Poet’s to have a little rest and play a game of ‘Ionian Islands Top Trumps’. We were all asked what facts we knew about the surrounding smatter of islands near to our beach (Midori, Skorpios, Poet’s, Turtle’s, etc). Remi definitely won with all of his facts about Poet’s and Skorpios. For example, nobody knew that Aristotle Onassis and both his children (Alexander and Christina) are buried on Skorpios Island.
After our rest we paddled around Poet’s Island to a small secluded spot that had just enough shore space to land our kayaks and boards. We popped our snorkels and masks on and went exploring! Remi and Tom led us to the best spots and we saw fireworms, fish, and Remi even brought up a live urchin and a brittle starfish for us to look at!
Once we’d taken some snaps and had a good swim around we boarded our kayaks and headed back across the bay to the centre. By now the sun had fully risen in the sky and we were ready to set up the beach ready for another awesome day at Horizon Watersports!
