August has been an absolute ball at Horizon Watersports. The beach has been busy busy BUSY! In particular we have seen a lot of families coming down to enjoy a day on (and in) the water.
We also hosted our first Firefly International holiday. Firefly International are a charity that work with children and young adults in Bosnia and Palestine. The Charity aims to offer these young people as many new and enriching life experiences as they can! They organise a great variety of different workshops with them in their home towns, such as music, art, sports and leadership skills. For young people, brought up in troubled surroundings, these outlets and experiences offer a safe and fun environment in which they can develop their personalities and their skill sets.
We were lucky enough to play host to 4 students from Bosnia this month. They were a great group to get to know and really made teaching fun. They tried everything we had on offer - sailing, windsurfing, snorkelling, kayaking and paddle boarding. Our friends at Vliho Yacht Club also took the Firefly Students on a yacht one day - which was amazing! Plus the local bike company Get Active, very kindly, offered to take them on a beautiful bike ride through the local olive groves and up to Nidri Waterfalls. Somehow the students still found the time to teach us a few things - guitar sessions with the staff and teaching us Bosnian were all part of the fun! All in all the week was action packed and quite simply awesome!
To top it off, Milos, Marija, Natasa and Adin all received their RYA Level 1 Sailing Qualification - something for their CVs!
We really did have a great time and plans are already under way to organise another trip for next year.
Thank you Firefly for thinking of us and thank you for giving us such a fun two weeks!
