Tom has recently joined us for the busy peak season time of July and August. We recruited Tom in the Spring when we heard that he was looking for a bit of a career 'revamp'! Here's how he got on in his first week...
"After a long day of travelling I arrived in Lefkas and was met by a very smiley Hannah and Remi. After an evening chatting with the team and unpacking into staff accommodation, I was up and at the centre by 9am for my first day. There was lots to learn, but we have great team members who were happy to show me the way. The first thing I noticed was how warm it was! Most of my experience teaching sailing has been in the UK, in Kent, so to think that 30-35 degree temperature and warm, clear, blue water was going to be my classroom seemed amazing.
The end of my first day coincided with a staff social, consisting of pizza and crazy golf, which meant I got to meet the whole team and get to know them better. We arrived a little late to the arcade so we had a hilarious 30 minute window to complete our crazy golf course. It was a great night with a great team and made me very excited for my time here.
As the week progressed, I quickly got up to speed with the tasks on the beach and was soon taking my first ‘joyride’ on the catamaran. It was brilliant to be on the water, enjoying the views and the sunshine. I also shadowed a few other teaching sessions throughout the week, to learn the ropes.
All in all it was a great and busy first week for me. I am working with a fantastic team of people and am loving being outdoors and active. What better place to do this job than in Greece? More importantly, than at Horizon Watersports!?"
