On Friday 12th June our wonderful Apprentice Instructors completed their training and achieved their RYA Dinghy Instructor qualification, and we couldn't be happier! After 5 weeks of training they have proven themselves as able sailors and teachers. We asked Evan, Ewan, Emma and James to give us a few words of feedback on their time so far at Horizon Watersports in Greece.
The last five weeks have been incredibly rewarding, through the apprenticeship I've developed a passion for sailing and windsurfing. This experience has put me on a career path I had never imagined and it's exciting to have a job I can be passionate about. I'm looking forward to working as an instructor for a long time to come.
When I started the course it was all completely new to me, so it was always going to be a challenge and there were some tough times during the course. However, it has been really nice to be out in Greece learning new sports so I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I am glad to be across the line and I am looking forward to starting work.
I came out to Greece in early May and I can say it has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. From the very beginning we have been immersed ( no pun intended ) in the amazing world of watersports. The 5 weeks of training we received was challenging but extremely rewarding, going from pretty much no sailing experience to being qualified instructors. Living in Greece was a completely new experience for me having never lived away from home for this long, but the whole team at Horizon have made this really easy for me. We all get on really well and it's like a big family.
I’ve really loved the last few weeks of my apprenticeship with Horizon, I’ve made some great friends and overcome lots of challenges... It’s been a new experience living and working in Greece, the place is so beautiful and I couldn't have asked for a nicer place to learn to sail. I’m really looking forward to working now as a DI - whether that is in Greece or the UK - exciting times lie ahead!
