New Horizons?

An Interview With The Boss Lady:

When will Horizon Watersports be open to the public?

In May 2015 we open our doors for the first time ever. We have a busy few months ahead of us but it will all be worth it when we see that first boat heading on to the water with a Horizon customer at the helm!

How do we all join in?

Everyone is welcome at Horizon Watersports, we have lessons to suit all abilities and ages. We also offer rental, so you can just hire the kit and go. If you want to join in, just pop in and book a session. If you want to pre-book just send an email to info@horizonwatersports.

What will the watersports base look like?

Hopefully it will look like a place that people want to ‘hang out’, relax and enjoy spending time at! This year we aim to keep things small, just a little cosy rental centre with a really friendly atmosphere. We will have a few small racks with our windsurf and paddle board kit stored on them and our sailing boats will be lined up neatly on the shore line.

Why have you chosen Lefkas Island for your first hire centre?

Lefkas is very close to our hearts, myself and Steve have loved living and working there over the years and we simply couldn’t think of a better location. Lefkas has everything you could wish for from a holiday destination. It’s a small island, you can drive around it in under 2hrs. The surrounding coast is littered with other islands making it a truly stunning area to be afloat. If you like sporty holidays Lefkas offers perfect terrain for walking, mountain biking, road biking, triathlons and of course watersports. If you like relaxing cultural holidays you’ll find many traditional villages, quiet hidden spots and some of the best beaches in Europe. There really is something for everyone.

What are your aims for Horizon?

We have a lot of plans in mind, but in summary, we aim to provide friendly and affordable watersports to the public. In doing so we hope to help bring people to the area and encourage the local tourist trade.

Our overall aim is to establish a solid foundation in 2015, on which to build our brand. Steadily enabling Horizon to grow little by little and in the process to train more and more apprentice instructors.

You mention the Apprentice Instructors – who are they?

Our Apprentice Scheme is a recruitment drive whereby we employ, train and qualify disadvantaged 18 – 24 year olds as watersports instructors. They will learn to live and work as part of a team. They will enjoy the benefits of living overseas and engaging in different cultures. Most importantly they will gain life skills and professional RYA qualifications which make them employable all over the world!

Anything else?

We just want to thank everyone for their help and support. We hope to see lots of people out on the water this summer….oh and remember to keep up to date with the news via our facebook page!
